Pray for Afghanistan!

Dear Prayer Partners!

The following information has been provided to us by AVC Austria.

In recent days very disturbing news have reached us from Afghanistan. As the media reported the Taliban have advanced to Kabul and took the capital city without resistance from the Afghan army. Dramatic scenes took place at the airport; many people tried everything to be able to leave. Afghanistan, and especially the Christians in the country, urgently need our prayers.

Christians are in extreme danger!

Especially Afghan Christians are in extreme danger, under the Taliban regime they are threatened with execution. Many of them have fled from their villages into other regions and cities, in fear of their lives. Any Bibles or other Christian material has to be quickly hidden or destroyed.

Officially there are no churches in Afghanistan. But during the past few years of foreign military presence quite a few people came to faith in Christ and have been secretly meeting. Church leaders are asking us to pray for wisdom, for guidance for the next steps which could make the difference between life and death.

Unfortunagely we have had reports that Taliban fighters are going from house to house in some villages to find those who have been working for the government, for NGOs or other foreign organizations. These people are threatened with arrest, prison, and even death.

Despite the growing Taliban threat many people in Afghanistan have been surprised by this sudden change. This has resulted in growing internal migration — many people flee from their villages to other regions and cities. They live in tents or in the open air. Many haven’t eaten for days because stores are closed. AVC contacts were able to provide food for 200 families and 150 small children as an emergency measure.

Please pray for …

  • the Afghan Christians: for supernatural protection and provision with food, clothing, medicines, for comfort and strength;
  • the leaders of churches/house churches: for supernatural wisdom, to know how to lead their church and what to do next;
  • women and girls who face extreme oppression;
  • all who have been in any way with the previous government, foreign governments and military, or NGOs, who also face reprisals and oppression;
  • the people of Afghanistan: that the peace they have been hoping for will become a reality when the people, the government, and the Taliban recognize and acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Saviour.

Afghanistan, hear the Word of the Lord!

Jesus, Saviour and Redeemer of mankind, stretch forth your hand in the midst of war and terror.

Grant signs and wonders, give dreams and visions, and willing hearts who will follow your inspiration.

Keep and protect especially my brothers and sisters. Let the angels of God descend to provide for them.

Give them a spirit of courage and of power.

We humans are overwhelmed by the power of the evil one which threatens to engulf us. So we boldly say:

May your kingdom come, may your will be done. Deliver us from the evil one.

Afghanistan, love God, the true Lord, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

We would love to hear from you!
